‘Bent and broken into a better shape’: the magical storytelling of Charles Dickens

A celebration of the 200th anniversary of his birth with Jeremy Harmer and Steve Bingham. Experience a young boy's terror in a sad and terrible landscape, laugh at the writer's sure comic hand, recoil at the horror of violent crime, glory in the power of love and forgiveness - and join Mr and Mrs Fezziwig for the best party ever! In 'Bent and broken into a better shape' - a show designed especially (but not exclusively) for teachers and students of international English, Steve Bingham and Jeremy harmer bring the magic of Dickens's writing to life through readings and music. Programme 17.30 - 18.45. Welcome reception and showing of early silent films of Dickens' tales 18.45 - 19.50. Introduction and performance 19.50 - 21.00. Take part in a guided tour of the garden where once stood Dickens's home and where he wrote 'Bleak House', 'Hard Times' and 'Great Expectations'.
