Dickens the Crime Writer - Oxford University Summerschool course

Christ Church, University of Oxford
Sun, 1st July 2012 - Sat, 7th July 2012

Five days studying what is an undervalued aspect of his writing - Dickens's pioneering crime novels at Oxford Univesity. We study 'Oliver Twist', his first true novel, 'Bleak House', possibly his masterpiece, and the tantalisingly unfinished 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood'. Through discussing these novels, and through deciding how to finish Edwin Drood, we will come to appreciate Dickens’s skill as a writer, his unique style, and the exuberance of his work. Seminars meet each weekday morning, with afternoons free for course-related field trips, individual study or exploring the many beautiful places in and around the city.
