Dickens's birthday in Peterborough
John Clare Theatre, Peterborough Central Library, UK
Tue, 7th February 2012 - Tue, 7th February 2012
Peterborough will be turning Dickensian in February! Dickens visited Peterborough on a number of occasions, to hold his famed 'public readings' in the city. In our main event on Dickens’s birthday (7 February) local historian Richard Jones will be speaking on Dickens, in full costume, re-enacting the man himself, talking about his life and performing readings from some of his best known works. He will be joined by Stuart Orme from Peterborough Museum revealing Dickens’s many links to Peterborough, which well-known Dickens character may have been based on a Peterborough resident, and much more... For a taster of our birthday event, meet Richard at various libraries around the city, as he pops in to help celebrate National Libraries Day on Saturday 4 Feb. Dickens readings and talk on 7 February will start at 7pm. Tickets £3 (£2 concessions) available in advance at Central Library. For a taster, attend Meet the Dickens Re-enactor on Saturday 4 February at Bretton Library (10.30-11.15am), Orton Library (12-12.45pm) and Werrington Library (2-2.45pm).For more information and to book, contact Central Library on 01733 864280 or email libraryenquiries@vivacity-peterborough.com.
