The life and work of Dickens is regularly celebrated in festivals and outdoor activities around the world. In 2012, Dickens-themed activities are expected to bring together millions of people worldwide with new events and special editions of key annual festivals being staged to mark the bicentenary. In addition, the year of the bicentenary will see new long-lasting commemorative initiatives including exciting legacy projects and heritage trails.

An evening of Victorian songs to celebrate Charles Dickens's birthday, sung by the baritones Donald Maxwell and Marcus Farnsworth.

The 34th Annual Great Dickens Christmas Fair and Victorian Holiday Party

The Great Dickens Christmas Fair, an annual tradition in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1970, transports visitors to an iconic Victorian holiday.

In Celebration the Dickens bicentenary this guided tour gives a fascinating glimpse into the life of Charles Dickens by visiting the graves of his wife Catherine, parents John and Elizabeth, sister Frances, brother Alfred and several of his friends and associates buried in Highgate’s West Cemetery.

Saturdays - 4.30 pm.

Cine Tourism film historian Sandra Shevey runs tri-weekly walks around Charles Dickens London film locations. Drawing upon set designs and art work Shevey compares the literary content of Dickens with the real locations and artistic adaptations. Shevey will discuss 'Lttle Dorrit', 'Oliver Twist' and 'A Christmas Carol'. Walks depart 11am and cost £25 excl. Contact: sandra_shevey@yahoo.com.
